Know the fundamental Jazz Standards
Ideally, you would memorize the changes and the melodies.
To begin, be sure you can play the melody and comp the changes for each of the tunes listed.
1. Learn the melody. Play along with a minus-one recording if you can.
2 For each lead sheet, be sure you can identify all of the tones in each chord symbol shown.
Feel free to print out the lead sheets and write directly on them for now.
3. Discover what mode can be used over each chord or set of chords. Look for chord patterns that allow you to stay in a key area for longer periods of time.
